Youth Leadership Eau Claire
Student Testimonials
"I appreciate the way YLEC opened my eyes to the wide variety of business careers available in the Eau Claire area. I like to think YLEC had an impact on why I now find myself studying business at the Carlson School of Management."
Justin Carlson, YLEC Class of 2006, North High School Graduate
"Before this program, I had no idea what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I still don't know, but YLEC gave me a great opportunity to observe a wide variety of businesses and to talk to employees and owners. I may not know what I want to be when I grow up, but at least now I have an idea of what kinds of careers are out there."
Joe Shook, YLEC Class of 2008, Memorial High School Student
YLEC helped me to realize what's going on in my community and how I can be an active part of it. This program is different because it is hands-on application of what you know, and what you think you know about living and being active in your community."
Megan Loftsgaarden, YLEC Class of 2006, Regis High School
"I think that YLEC gives high schoolers a chance to learn about things that are impossible to see from the inside of a classroom. A teacher can't just tell you about how a TV station works or how to control the prompter for a news anchor to read off of unless you are actually there in the moment seeing how it is done. YLEC exposes you to careers you may not have known about or had a misconstrued idea about what they do. Besides the Wednesday meeting each month, the group service projects teach you truly how to
work together as a group with students that you are not with everyday at school and accomplish a goal. The projects are very rewarding and fulfilling to see what you have accomplished whether it be an event put on for the community or a product made for the benefit of others. Meeting deadlines, cooperation, and professionalism all played a major part. On top of all of the great experiences and valuable things learned throughout the year, you get to meet some pretty fantastic people!"
Avonlea Quinn, YLEC Class of 2007, Altoona High School Student
"YLEC gave me the chance to explore different career fields, and gain knowledge about organizations in the Eau Claire community. I enjoyed having the opportunity to meet students from all around the Eau Claire area, and have many fond memories from this program."
Matt Jacobs, YLEC Class of 2006, Memorial High School Graduate
"Participating in YLEC was my first taste of the real business world. It taught me important leadership skills that I continue to use in the workplace, while volunteering, and in working on class projects. Through this program, I have also become interested in possibly working for a non-profit organization some day. It was definitely a great experience and is applicable for the real world!"
Ashley Childs, YLEC Class of 2004, Memorial High School Graduate
"I absolutely loved YLEC. I was in the class of 2006 and I thought it was an amazing chance to meet other students from different schools in the Eau Claire area. Also, I had no idea that Eau Claire offered so many different opportunities. The leaders were my favorite because they always made things fun! Thank you so much for letting me be in your program! I feel honored to have participated."
